town action

Chapel Hill is working to become a more sustainable and resilient community. Here, that means finding a strong and lasting balance between social, economic and environmental sustainability. We believe a healthy environment is the foundation for social well-being and a vibrant local economy. We strive to learn from our history, monitor our progress, and innovate to solve problems.

The pages below feature sustainable action across the three dimensions of sustainability — equity, environment and economy. Though many of the actions touch upon more than one dimension of sustainability, we have categorized them to help highlight the different aspects of a sustainable community. If you visit Town Hall, you might see this logo. We developed the concept for our composting pilot at Town Hall and Fire Station 1. The logo describes our commitment to making “green” decisions that support our Climate Action goals. However, we can’t create a sustainable and resilient community alone. Join us in this effort by clicking on the My Action pages and send us your tips by using the the Contact page.
